Mayor’s Welcome

Welcome Message from the Mayor of Devonport

Hello from the sunny North West Coast and Devonport in particular!

I am very much looking forward to welcoming members of CMCA to Devonport in February for the Tasmanian State Rally.  I know you will enjoy your stay and that you will all find adventures in and around the City over the week (and perhaps longer!).

Devonport has much to offer. We are, as I’m sure you all know, the home of the Spirits. Our city is undergoing a major transformation with Stage One of the Living City project now completed and the Waterfront Precinct underway. A significant component of this has been the upgrade and integration of our arts precinct, allowing Council to bring the performing and visual arts together under the one roof.  I hope you take the opportunity to browse through the beautiful new Art Gallery spaces and talk to our staff and volunteers at the Visitor Information Centre while you are here. The paranaple centre is also home to the Council, the Library and Service Tasmania as well as a state of the art convention centre.

Within our city we have:

Don River Railway where you can explore the history of trains in Tasmania,
Home Hill, which is the residence of Joe and Enid Lyons, both of whom have a significant place in our country’s history,
the Bass Strait Maritime Centre which is an opportunity to explore the history of Devonport and its relationship to Bass Strait
and of course our wonderful foreshore and Bluff headland to explore.

There are many cafes, restaurants, hotels with great food and beverage within the city and exploring further you can visit cheesemakers, chocolate makers, wine makers, artists and wonderful towns and communities right across the region, all of which are warm and welcoming and have great offerings for visitors.

I am really looking forward to your visit and I know the people of Devonport will make you very welcome.

Best Wishes

Councillor Annette Rockliff
